In 2013, Hattiesburg, MS was devastated by an EF4 tornado. In studying the event, it became clear that while disaster response communications with the public had improved with social media, more could be done.

The tornado caused major infrastructure damage with downed powerlines and trees. These obstacles did not permit response vehicles to get to various locations in a timely fashion. It is with this in mind that "HiRO" was born. Drs. Subbarao and Cooper came up with the idea of leveraging cutting edge drone technology with highly advanced telemedical technology into a singular solution.

That is the inspiration for "Healthcare Integrated Rescue Operations." Highly advanced, portable telemedical kits and support systems equip the lay-person bystander for a variety of situations.
